Cavity 2024

In 2022, I underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured ovarian cyst— a violence inside my body invisible to everyone except my surgeon. Two years later, I still obsess over this detonation: the ignition, butchering, anesthesia, absorption, and eventual return. Anchored by two soloists, myself and cellist Dorothy Carlos, "Cavity" emerges through fables of speculative physiology, with scores for dancing and music based in states of turbulence to reconstitute a sense of interiority. "Cavity" is a place where I have found a clearing, where I can map what I don’t know, where I can dance the self.

Music: Dorothy Carlos
