Bellwether 2020

Choreography: Amelia Heintzelman & Leah Fournier

Performance: Amelia Heintzelman, Leah Fournier
Costumes, music, and video by the artists

"Bellwether," is a collaboration between Amelia Heintzelman and Leah Fournier, researched at Nonotuck State Park in Northampton, MA through a residency at School for Contemporary Dance and Thought, and later performed on a private rooftop in Queens after the premiere at University Settlement Project in NYC was canceled due to the pandemic in 2020.

The work delves into the depths of ritual and the performers' shared movement lineage. The choreography centers around a tranquil pond which can be seen in the live projection and was later used to make an original sound score. As the performance unfolds, the audience is drawn into a world of patience and stillness where the dancers' bodies become vessels for the expression of endurance through a sustained pace. The pond serves as a symbolic space of transformation and renewal, where the dancers explore themes of birth, death, and rebirth.
