Continuousness: A Dance Workshop Series
Continuousness is an eight-week workshop series led by Amelia Heintzelman, exploring dance improvisation. Each class begins with a guided warm-up rooted in yoga and pilates before moving into dancing. Participants will work with improvisational scores, suggestions and prompts to inspire movement, such as “move as if you are experiencing airplane turbulence” or “twist around the center of your spine.” Continuousness in attention and motion will serve as a guiding principle throughout. Open to all levels, this series is for anyone seeking a creative and rigorous approach to movement.

Reviews
Continuousness was a playful treat, a moving therapy, and a paradigm shift. Amelia’s years-long commitment to artful innovation is unmistakable. Class with Amelia is unlike any other, rich with novel movement, unforgettable cues, and a steady pull towards self-reflection. Wiggling with Amelia turned me from a curious non-dancer to a confident movement student.
This workshop felt like dropping down a guided weekly rabbit hole to a realm of serious play. Making space for physical ideation became craved ritual. We were squiggly, demonic, mordant, squishy, and ethereal. Amelia is a triple threat who thrives as choreographer, teacher, and performer, giving us multiple entry points for exploration. The generative focus of the workshop demanded that we each learned to push through our own walls of ego, boredom, and shame to find our own font of continuous movement.
This class was a dance/movement reawakening for me. I so appreciated that this class was structured around personal creativity and expression rather than typical dance classes that are structured around choreo and technique. The people were great, I loved that we had ample chances to watch each other and chat about our feelings/processes. Overall, I adored this class and I am eager for round 2!
